Came in for a keratin treatment and left with my hair looking very health. James was very personable and made my long appointment enjoyable.

James is literally the best! Makes time for you, understands what you want, and makes the process fun. His explanation of what my hair needed and how to get to the results I wanted was so knowledgeable. He made it so effortless and I could not be happier with my hair!

Every time I come to James I want something new but not too different. Basically I don’t know what I want. But he always does absolute magic with my hair and I always walk out looking like a queen. I get so many complements on my cuts, organic perm, and color. And I love the ambiance of the place. Highly recommend!

Absolutely loved this place! The vibe is super chill and welcoming, and Jim was incredibly friendly and professional. I brought a book with me since keratin treatments take a while, but I didn’t even open it—we ended up chatting the whole time. James is a seasoned stylist and Renaissance man. He is creative and intuitive and offers unmatched flexibility in his availability to clients. Star Vibes has a Jamaican reggae theme but also features a piano, which James has been known to play, as he is a master pianist! James has the "chops" to provide a hairstyle you will love.

I travel over an hour n 20 minutes to get here for me n my kids . I seriously never experienced amazing results and feel happy and not taken advantage of with prices after leaving jimmys salon . He’s very reasonable , talented , funny , free spirited artist !! Jimmy is flexible and open 7 days a week and this works for me bring a busy mom /student . I have been going to jimmy James for 4 years now n before that no one got my hair the way I wanted it n everyone charged outrages prices . Jimmy , you will have a forever client (as long as I live in Illinois ) lol.. my hair is beautiful because of you and Amari is even more handsome with his cool hair .

This was my 1st time coming to James. He asked me what I wanted, cut, color, style etc. Even asked if I had pictures for him! We spent a good 30 min discussing the game plan before he evn started! Let me tell you James is amazing from the atmosphere of his Salon, the conversation chatting like we had known each other for years! He asked me if I thought that cut was what I wanted etc. Cherry on top is my hair, I have never had a hair cut frame my face and boost my confidence, pure magic James did. The highlights he did are absolutely stunning. A whole new me thanks too James and his magic!

I went in with a Groupon for a highlights but ended up really needing an overall color to achieve the desired result.  There was an upcharge for the extrs color, but he was upfront about it and I was thrilled with the result!

Wow there is nothing but good things to say about Star Vibes. The most important at the end of the day: phenomenal haircut. Every place I’ve gone to needs a picture and a novel on how the hair should be cut and they still can’t get it right. Jim just needed a brief description and nailed it! It’s like he reads minds! I had a cut and  highlights done by James with a great Groupon deal. Very happy as it is organic and all products are so great and love people who gave you positive energy and make  you feel you are the best customer ever.

James has transformed my hair from previous stylists that over processed my hair. What I like the best is he totally educates you on the chemical process and how it affects our hair. My scalp use to itch and burn after highlights and touchups but his products have never affected my scalp. My hair is now healthy and soft. I trusted him so much that I went to him as the mother of the groom....and you know that your hair needs to be perfect on the day your son gets martied. It was perfect.

I have been jumping from stylist to stylist the first 27 years of my life. I was referred to Jim by a friend and I can say I will be going to see him until he stops cutting hair or I move out of the state. Here's why:

I don't have to stress about what to do with my hair. He takes one look and knows what to do. He casts the vision, gives me an amazing haircut and guides me on what to do outside the salon to keep it looking good until next time.

He is passionate and knowledgeable. He stays current with what's trendy but also puts his own "Star Vibes" to your haircut.

I always leave feeling great. He has infectiously positive energy and is sincere.

James at Star Vibes has been my stylist for several years. In fact, I tell him that if I move he has to move too. When I first moved back to the area I tried a variety of salons. They were fine. Then I saw “organic” and thought I bet it will be expensive. But I tried it once, the hair color didn’t set my scalp on fire and the price was comparable to what I had been paying elsewhere. That was hook one. Then there’s James. When I first started going he would ask how I wanted my hair. My response was always the same, “I don’t care. It just needs to look good slept on.” Most stylists can’t handle this seemingly lack of direction. They don’t have the training or confidence to get to know me and make a decision based on what will look best for my face shape and what will work best for my lifestyle and occupation. James is the consummate professional and I always leave looking my best. With my busy life there are times I have washed my air and let it air dry on the way to work. I felt guilty receiving compliments but someone in my office commented that it was because of the great cut. Thanks James, you made my life easier!

If your vibe is a rollup, James can do it! If it's unicorn hair he's the man. Problems with a bad color job from another salon, he can fix it, may take a few visits  though,  it's not magic! Been seeing him for 6 yrs, I like the natural look and no one would guess I have a full head of silver hair ;) because it's an awesome, warm black.  Everyone looks happy walking out, guys cuts, kids, I even had my 95 yr old mother getting her hair done here. Nice guy, knows his art  :)

I have been seeing James for years now, gosh it has to be 7 years already.
Let me start that I’m super picky with who does my color!!!!! And have had my hair damaged by many. James always does a great job.
I couldn’t see myself letting anyone touch my hair.
I’m also the one who calls last minute because I looked in the mirror and said “ I need my hair done” he has never failed to make a spot available. The organic product are amazing, I’m plant based vegan so that super important to me.
His place is amazing, clean, comfy, and very welcoming feeling!!!

I have been working with James for a few years now and he has done wonders for my hair! Gives fabulous hair cuts and tremendous color and highlights! He knows his trade well and uses only the best organic and least toxic products in his salon. I highly recommend Star Vibes Salon!

I came to Jim by accident years ago crying for help after a different stylist in a different salon ruined my hair. Through the years - he has done it all for me - I had an organic perm when my hair were long - and it was amazing - no frizz, no broken hair. I went super short eventually - and the cut was superb. I work in corporate environment- and going really short was risky for me - but Jim did an amazing style. I get highlights in various colors on a regular basis - and my hair is always the color I want, never burnt, and super silky. He never pushes products on you - but if you do ask him for something - all the stuff he sells is awesome - and lasts a really long time.

He charges very reasonably, always available on shot notice in odd hours (I work downtown and a single mom - so need MUCH flexibility). And he is a very pleasant person to be around.

I will never ever go anywhere else again. And my boys - including moody teenager, love him and how he does their hair too.

I had a cut and color done by James last week and couldn't be happier with the result! I had an idea of what I wanted going in, but he used his expertise and it turned out even better. The salon was clean and had a very relaxed vibe. He was a lot of fun and we had good conversation.  It was also VERY reasonably priced 👍.
